A Reflection on Jack Strath, a Neighbour and a Man

Yesterday morning our neighbour Jack Strath passed away.  He was well cared for in the Perley, Ottawa’s Veterans hospital.  He will be missed by his loving and devoted wife, Joyce, and their children and grandchildren.  He will also be missed by his friends and neighbours in Riverview Gardens, in the Mooney’s Bay community.

A couple of times a week I try and post a Quotation from my Journal that I have kept sense I was a young man.  I am not surprised that today’s entry is so fitting and descriptive of the man that Jack was.

“For those to whom much is given, much is required.  And when at some future date that high court of history sits in judgement on each of us, recording whether in our brief span of service we fulfilled our responsibilities to the state, our success or failure in whatever office we hold will be measured by the answers to four questions:

First, were we truly men of courage?

Second, were we truly men of judgement?

Third, were we truly men of integrity?

Finally, were we truly men of dedication?

John F. Kennedy

Jack was all of the above and more.  Rest in Peace.
