Day of the Endangered Lawyer marked on January 24, 2017

Marked on January 24th, the annual Day of the Endangered Lawyer is a time to reflect on the plight of lawyers around the world who risk harassment, persecution, injury and death as they work to protect the rights of those who need it most.

For 2017, the Law Society would like to acknowledge the untiring efforts and courage of  human rights lawyers in China and the prominent Human Rights Defender Waleed Abu al-Khair in Saudi Arabia.

The Law Society is committed to maintaining and advancing access to justice and the rule of law.

Through the Human Rights Monitoring Group, the Law Society has intervened many times in the cases of lawyers in China and Saudi Arabia, including that of endangered lawyer and Law Society Human Rights Award recipient Waleed Abu al-Khair.

The Law Society encourages its members to honour courageous lawyers around the world. Learn more about their stories through the links above.
