I am proud to be a Localist!

The energy around “Local” these days is palpable, and BALLE is leading the Localist movement in a new way. What is Localism? It’s healthy and sustainable communities backed by strong, resilient local economies. It’s using regional resources to meet our needs — reconnecting eaters with farmers, investors with entrepreneurs, and business owners with their communities. Localism is about building the New Economy, right where we live. And it’s happening everywhere, right now. Watch our new animated video, Building Real Prosperity, and share it far and wide!

For the first time, BALLE has opened up membership to anyone interested in connecting, sharing and innovating with our community! That means you can be an individual, a business, a network, or a supporter of the movement — no matter what hat you wear — membership is now open to YOU. At bealocalist.org you can join the fastest growing network of Localists in North America and in your town. Connect with others and help us spread the word by sharing images from our graphics cupboard and following our social media pages too.

We make it easy to sharpen your Localist impact by offering resources like our BALLE EDGE-ucate tool kit — which includes an entire new series of BALLE LIVE! Webinars that will showcase national experts, leaders and sought-after Localist pioneers. You’ll be introduced to visionaries who are re-imagining and re-inventing what a thriving local economy can be. Additionally you will find how-to manuals, local economy resources, took kits and other ideas that will keep you on top of the game changing trends and innovations happening around the country. We give you direct access to experts who are leading the field. Plus for the price of admission you get the “how-to” packet of slides, often replete with budgets, legal forms, and project plans that give you an edge in running your business. After the success of our Community Capital series, we’ve added new webinars to our series that center around the work happening in each of our Core Four impact areas (Community Capital, Local First, Better Together, and DIY Entrepreneurs), and our overarching work toward Prosperity For All! Register for our next webinar now, space is limited.

The application deadline to be a 2013-2014 BALLE Local Economy Fellow, part of a unique fellowship dedicated solely to advancing the local economy movement, is October 1, 2012. Our Fellows are at the forefront of rebuilding communities from the ground up through creative economic development strategies that enhance the staying power of locally owned businesses, by applying their passion for social change to business-oriented solutions, and through sustainable innovations in manufacturing, finance and food. Do you know someone who is working to improve and expand the local economy movement? Are you someone who sees the big picture but thrives on local solutions? We invite those individuals who would benefit from peer to peer mentoring, professional advancement, networking with national leaders and experts to apply now.
