Information Session on B-Corps

MaRS Centre for Impact Investing is hosting a discussion around B-Corps. I am sure many of you on this list are familiar, but for those who may not be … the “B” in B-Corp stands for “benefit” and a B-Corp is a social enterprise (doing good by doing good business) that is certified by a central body as meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. It’s like what the Fair Trade certification is to coffee. Certified B Corps are also measured using the B Impact Assessment. The assessment looks at a corporation’s performance with regards to such areas as environment, community, employees, governance, accountability, etc.

At last count, there are over 935 Certified B Corporations in 32 countries across 60 different industries. Nationwide, Canada now boasts more than 105 B Corps in 7 provinces and one territory!
