Investments in Social and Affordable Housing Bring Strong Returns – Mowat Centre Report

With federal support for over 200,000 units of social housing set to disappear over the next 20 years, a new Mowat Centre report looks at the public returns on these investments.

Prepared for the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the report uses a Social Return on Investment lens to identify the benefits that come from social and affordable housing. Such benefits include stronger labour markets, better educational performance, healthier populations, and safer communities.

The report then looks at the case for the federal government to commit to a new partnership with provincial and local governments to address Canadians’ housing challenges.
