The Ontario Office of the Premier announced the Members of the Premier’s Community Hub Framework Advisory Group<http://news.ontario.ca/opo/en/2015/04/members-of-the-premiers-community-hub-framework-advisory-group.html>, which will review provincial policies and develop a framework for adapting existing public assets to become community hubs that will offer co-ordinated services such as education, health care and social services.

The Toronto Enterprise Fund announced the launch of its 2015 Business Plan Competition<https://ccednet-rcdec.ca/en/new-in-ced/2015/04/13/2015-tef-business-plan-competition-social-enterprises>, which will be open to non-profit social enterprises that provide transitional or permanent employment for marginalized populations, with a total of $155,000 in seed funding available for the winners.  The deadline for submissions is October 9, 2015.
The MaRS Centre for Impact Investing announced the one year anniversary of the launch of its Community Finance Solutions<http://socialfinance.ca/2015/04/15/one-year-of-community-finance-solutions-part1/> initiative, highlighting the success stories in the raising and deployment of investment capital that the initiative has entailed.

International News

(New Zealand) Lifehack, New Zealand’s youth wellbeing social innovation lab, will be partnering with Massey University’s School of Design to create a Design Challenge project<http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/GE1504/S00037/lifehack-and-massey-university-collaborate-for-wellbeing.htm> that will mentor students to develop innovative responses, building on existing social entrepreneurship course content.

(USA) The Salt Lake County Pay for Success Initiative<http://payforsuccess.org/resources/salt-lake-county-issues-request-proposals-criminal-justice-childmaternal-health-projects> has released two Requests for Proposals from qualified non-profits to provide comprehensive services in the fields of criminal justice/recidivism and child/maternal health.

(UK) Social Enterprise UK released a statement<http://www.socialenterprise.org.uk/news/social-enterprise-responds-the-conservative-party-manifesto> expressing its concerns with the Conservative Party’s 2015 Election Platform, with a particular focus on extending the UK’s Right to Buy Housing policy.

(USA) Verizon announced that it would be seeking submissions for its 2015 Powerful Answers Award<http://www.verizon.com/powerfulanswers/award/>, which will provide $6M in cash prizes to innovators, developers and entrepreneurs who are developing ideas that leverage cutting edge technology to create solutions that deliver social good.  Winners will participate in an accelerator program designed to help develop their ideas and bring solutions to market faster.
(UK) The North East Social Investment Fund<https://bdaily.co.uk/finance/10-04-2015/north-east-social-investment-fund-now-open-for-business/>, a £9m social investment loan fund is now open for business and actively seeking applications from social enterprises in the North East of England whose focus include homelessness, debt and poverty, improvement in health and social care needs, mental health provision, offender rehabilitation, unemployment and regeneration of deprived communities.

Social Venture Institute<http://hollyhocklife.org/sviv/> will be holding celebrating its 20th Anniversary on April 22-24, 2015 in Vancouver, BC.  The event will serve as an intensive, interactive inquiry into how to face the day-to-day challenges of running a socially conscious enterprise.
